How to increase your metabolism? This question has been asked a lot and the answer is fairly simple. Our metabolism is controlled by hormones which are secreted by our thyroid gland. Our thyroid gland is positioned in the front of the neck.

The thyroid gland produces thyroid hormones which control our metabolism. When our thyroid gland is working correctly, then our metabolism is balanced and we start to lose weight or gain weight depending on what is needed.

Our thyroid gland controls how quickly our body’s burn energy, make proteins and how sensitive our bodies are to other hormones. Our thyroid glands are responsible for our metabolism, how fast or how slow our bodies burn fats and carbohydrates.

If our bodies have an under active thyroid or hypothyroidism, then our thyroid glands will produce less thyroid hormones which in turn slow down our metabolic rate. If our bodies have a slow metabolic rate we start to store fat.

A good way to avoid getting hypothyroidism is to get enough iodine in the food we eat. Thyroid glands are controlled by iodine.

Taking kelp or seaweed in or on our food is an excellent way to get the iodine we need for helping our thyroids to stay healthy and balanced, by having a balanced thyroid our bodies will then balance our metabolism which in turn will help keep us thin, healthy and fit. Cheddar cheese, Sea salt, Yogurt, cow's milk and strawberries also have iodine in them.

So how to increase your metabolism, well there are many ways to do this. First exercise is a great way to help increase your metabolism. It gets more oxygen to our cells and helps to speed up our metabolism so we burn fat easier.

Doing some fast walking, running, jogging, or cardio exercise before every meal will help greatly in increasing our metabolism so we burn more calories and digest our food properly.

Next eating foods which are high in iodine such as kelp, seaweed, cheddar cheese, Sea salt, Yogurt, milk and strawberries, these foods will help regulate our thyroid glands which in turn will help us lose weight. Grapefruits, almonds, apples, spinach, beans, broccoli and cinnamon all have helpful properties to speed up our metabolism.

Some herbs which help are hawthorn, this herb stimulates the thyroid gland which increases metabolism, capsicum, black pepper, hot mustard, cayenne pepper all are hot spices which help to increase the burning of calories, these hot spices can increases our metabolism up to 25% for a few hours.

There are many more ways on how to increase your metabolism, but these few should be more than enough to get you on your way to a faster metabolism and a healthier body.
